Frequently Asked Questions

Let's answer your

Questions

  • When should I wash my hair?
Ideally the night before as your hair will have more grip when it comes to styling. If your hair is fly away you could leave conditioner off when washing. However If your hair gets greasy quickly it may be best to wash on the morning.
  • When should I colour my hair?
This can change depending on if you are having foils or an all over colour. Usually the week of your event or wedding works well. For blonde hair it can be better 2 weeks before as sometimes roots can be too bright initially. For dark all over colours try to do at least 1 shampoo between dying your hair and the day, as to remove any tint left over on the hair & neck line. I don't advise dying your hair the night before.
  • What time do I arrive?
You will be sent a schedule for the morning closer to the date of your wedding, we always schedule a little extra time with each person just in case we need it. Therefore, please be ready to start a little earlier than your time. The artists may be ahead of schedule which means there will be more time towards the end of the morning for refreshes and top ups.
  • Can you cater for all skin types & tones?
Yes of course! The makeup artists on the team are highly skilled and we often get a mix of skin types and skin tones within bridal parties. We will have our full makeup kit with us on the day.
  • I have sensitive skin!
Not a problem at all. We often get clients with sensitivity to certain products or ingredients. If you know the brand or product that does not work for you please tell us so we can use an alternative. Alternatively, if you would prefer to have my makeup artists use one of your products instead on the day please bring this with you.
  • What do I bring with me?
We provide all the equipment and products. Hair bookings: If you are having any hair accessories or hair extensions these are provided by yourself. Do bring them along to your appointment if you have them. Makeup bookings: It can be handy to bring a lipstick or gloss to top up your lips later on.
  • I have never worn false lashes before!
We stock a full assortment of reusable lashes to choose from that will go hand in hand with your chosen makeup look and can be as subtle or glam as you like. False lashes are included with all makeup applications. If you prefer not to add them that is also not a problem.
  • Can I use my own foundation or product?
Yes you can. Our makeup artists have huge kits of colours and products that they will bring with them on the day. However, if you feel like there is that 1 product that you love or works really well on your skin, by all means we can use/apply this for you alongside our own products.
  • I have acne scarring can you cover it?
When acne scars sometimes the skin can heal with an indentation. There are techniques we use as skilled makeup artists to minimise the look of scarring, such as a pore filing primer or avoiding reflective products on the skin such as highlighter, as this can make the scarring more visible. We may not be able to eliminate the scarring completely, however we will do our best to minimise the appearance of your acne scarring and make you feel your best self on the day.
  • I have redness or rosacea!
Our skin is made up of so many colours, as makeup artists we understand skin colour, pigmentation and undertones! There are techniques we use to cover redness on the skin and can advise how to minimise redness showing through the makeup throughout the day.
  • Should I have a facial in the lead up?
A good skin care routine is paramount to achieving that flawless look on your wedding day. If you want to start a course of facials to hydrate your skin in the lead up this is great, however I would recommend having the last facial at least 2 weeks prior to any event or wedding as you will likely have a break out after as the skin's pores self clean.
  • What should I do in the lead up to achieve great skin?
Hydrate yourself with water throughout the day. Make sure you remove any makeup before you go to bed. Try not to change anything drastically in your daily skincare routine, as your skin may break out to new ingredients and products. Don't pick your skin or squeeze spots instead allow them to heal on their own or use a pimple patch. Maintain a good sleep pattern.
  • I have fine hair what do you suggest?
We often work with clients with finer hair types. When searching for hair ideas I would recommend looking at images for your hair type. There are techniques we can use to give your hair a little more volume such as using padding for updo's (doughnut rings work well) or hair extensions. If you are looking for a down style I would recommend opting for hair extensions that are the same length as your own hair as this will give more volume to the hairstyle as longer hair can look wispy towards the end length. Please bring doughnut rings or hair extensions with you to your appointment as we can fit them however do not provide them.
  • Can you fit hair extensions?
Yes we can! Hair extensions work well for finer hair as it can give you more volume. We can fit clip in extensions if you bring them to your appointment. However, we do not provide them. Please ensure your hair extensions are free of knots and neatly presented ready to clip in. If you have bonded hair extensions this is also not a problem for us to work with, I would recommend either having a down style or low down updo as not to show the bonds.
  • What brands of makeup do you use?
As makeup artists our kits will have an array of high quality brands that have great staying power, that are kind on the skin and look great! Some of the brands we use are Bobbi Brown, Charlotte Tilsbury, Mac, Urban Decay, Illasmasqua, Clinique, Anastasia Beverley Hills, Elf, Remy, Kat Von Dee, Morphe You can check out some of the teams favourite products they carry in their kit on our "Meet The Team" page.
  • I don't wear makeup everyday and want a very natural look.
Absolutely! Natural makeup is something Wishbone & Comb prides ourselves in. We will be guided by you completely and will not overwhelm you with products or make the makeup feel heavy or harsh. We want to make you feel like yourself, just that little bit extra special, especially if it is your wedding day! When you make an enquiry through the "contact" page, if you mention this in the "tell us more" section then I will match you with a makeup artist from the team that specialises in barely there and natural makeup.
  • Is there a minimum spend?
No! There is not a minimum spend, however on bank holidays and weekends in our peak season we may require a minimum of 4 people if my team are travelling out of their local area to you.
  • How much is the deposit?
30% of the total is required to secure your date and artists. This confirms your booking with us and you will then be securely booked with Wishbone & Comb. The remaining balance is then due up to a week prior to your event/wedding.
  • Is travel included?
We have a team of artists, where possible I will match you with the closest artist to where you are getting ready on the day. Local bookings: If you are getting ready within a 5 mile radius of the artists home address travel is included. After 5 miles, travel is charged as a round trip at 50p per mile from the artists home address.
  • Is parking for the artists included?
Parking charges are paid by the client. Where possible we will try to find the closest and most reasonable car park. Most wedding venues do have free car parking included.
  • When is the final balance due?
The remaining balance is due up to 7 days prior to your booking. If you would prefer to pay your balance off early this is not a problem. Please use your name or invoice number as reference. All monies received will be confirmed by email.
  • What is the earliest time you start?
The earliest time we usually start is 6am. (No one wants to have to start earlier than 6! 🙂) if you have an early ready by time or large party it may be best for us to arrive as a team. How many of my team will be present on the morning will depend on several factors, when you fill out the contact form do give us as much detail as you can, as that will enable me to get an accurate quote over to you, which will include how many team members will be working on the morning and what time we would arrive.
  • I have a morning ceremony time!
Not a problem at all! We will usually have you ready 1 hour prior to your ceremony this will then give you plenty of time to get changed into your dress, take some photos and collect any last minute nerves. If you have a large party we will likely arrive as a team depending on how many people need to be ready by said time.
  • What is the maximum amount of people you can do?
We are a team of 18 hair & makeup artists, therefore if we are given enough notice we can cater for large parties of any number. That being said it will depend on the date and time you are getting ready and the location, so be sure to enquire with us as soon as possible to avoid disappointment!
  • How long does it take?
Generally guest/party makeup takes 45 minutes as does guest/party hair. Bridal hair & makeup takes a little longer as more time is spent on perfecting the look as all eyes are on you! Bridal makeup takes 60 minutes and hair takes 60 minutes. For large parties a little time at the end of the treatments is scheduled for top-ups. For wedding bookings or larger bookings I will make a schedule closer to the time so everyone knows roughly what time their treatment starts. That also means not everyone needs to be up at the same time.
  • How many artists do you send?
Generally for bookings with 3 or more people all having hair & makeup their will be 2 artists from the team. 1 hairstylist + 1 makeup artist, however there maybe more artists from my team depending on several factors, such as how many people in your party would like hair &/or makeup and the time you are getting ready also the location you are getting ready at.
  • What if the artist booked is taken ill?
I know all the artists on my team personally, not only are they highly reliable, they take bookings very seriously when it comes to committing to the date. In the unforeseeable event of an illness serious enough to prevent the artist from attending, I would do my very best to replace them with either myself or another artist from my team. If you had a trial all the notes would be passed on to the replacement artist and where possible a little extra time scheduled.
  • When do I book a trial?
Trials are most beneficial when they are booked around 2-4 months prior to your wedding day. Trials are where you can meet your bridal artists and try out your hair/makeup looks and find the perfect bridal look together. Trials can take between 1 and 1.5 hours, you may like to try and time it with another occasion/ dress fitting/ ect, I usually suggest a morning/early afternoon start so you can see how the hair and makeup lasts throughout the day and get a feel of it on yourself.
  • What are your prices?
All the prices are on the "price list" page, there is a drop down menu to choose from where you can view the price of which service you are looking for. Travel fee's may apply to the booking depending on the location/address where you are getting ready. Do send through an enquiry through the "contact" page to get an exact price for your wedding or event.
  • Can I add people on at a later date?
The short answer is yes.. It is better to know the exact numbers for hair & makeup as we will commit to the booking size and book out the time accordingly, adding another person who is unsure at the time of booking may be possible, but cannot be guaranteed. It is also not a good idea to overbook people who are likely not going to want their hair & makeup done on the day. The reason for this is the the artists commit to the booking size and when numbers decrease it is unfair to the artist who has committed to that booking months in advance and therefore turned away other bookings for the same date.
